Watson and Duch named NLL's best in MarchRock goalie, Stealth forward honored for standout play in MarchNLL Press Release Toronto Rock goaltender Bob Watson is the National Lacrosse League's Player of the Month for March, while San Jose Stealth forward Rhys Duch wins Rookie of the Month honors. Watson was the backstop at the heart of a revival of the Rock's 2009 season. After ending the month of February with an overall record of 2-7, Watson helped keep Toronto's season alive with three games of holding the opposition to 10 goals or less. The veteran goaltender won three games last month, as Toronto posted a 3-1 record for the month and enters April with a 5-8 record, still in the hunt for a playoff spot in the tightly packed East Division standings. Watson saved 129 out of the 162 shots he faced, for a save percentage of 79.6. Duch continued his sensational rookie campaign in March, scoring 10 goals and adding 19 assists for 29 points in five games played. San Jose went 2-3 in the month of March, and remain alive for a playoff spot in the West Division race, taking a record of 5-8 into the home stretch. Duch has scored 70 points on the season (24 goals, 46 assists), the second highest scoring member of the Stealth so far this season. With three regular season games remaining, he is on pace to eclipse the league's rookie scoring record, set by Gavin Prout. Prout scored 82 points during his rookie season (2002). This is Watson's third career Player of the Month award and his first since 2005. This is the first such honor for Duch, who also has two Rookie of the Week awards. BOB WATSON RHYS DUCH -30- |
