Minnesota Swarm general manager Marty O'Neill announced yesterday that Duane Jacobs has resigned from his position as head coach of the team.

Jacobs was hired as head coach in 2006 and posted a 25-23 record and two playoff appearances in three seasons. He led Minnesota to a 6-10 record in 2009 but the Swarm failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.

According to O'Neill, Jacobs' career as a lawyer, his travel habits, and year-round involvement with lacrosse has left him without time to spend with his wife Judy and son Tie.

"I'd like to thank Dewey for three great years of service and growth," O'Neill said. "I've been lucky to have both playing and management experiences with Dewey and I'll miss working alongside him."

Jacobs, a Burlington, Ontario native, is also the head coach of the Iroquois National box lacrosse team. Prior to joining Minnesota, Jacobs served as an assistant coach with the Buffalo Bandits.

Jacobs played professional lacrosse for eleven years in the NLL, recording 181 goals and 186 assists in 109 games. He won five Canadian national championships as an amateur before entering the NLL. He was a member of the 1997 Rochester Knighthawks championship team and was named to the NLL All-Pro Second Team four consecutive seasons from 1996-99.

"We will immediately begin looking for a new head coach," said O'Neill.
