2010 season to begin in Orlando

The National Lacrosse League will begin its 2010 season in early January with the first-ever game in Orlando, then follow with the league's debut in Washington the following night.

The 2010 schedule, released today by the league, puts the Philadelphia Wings and newly-relocated Orlando Titans alone on opening night, with a Friday, 8 January meeting at Amway Arena.

One night later, the Colorado Mammoth travels to Comcast Arena in Everett to play the Washington Stealth, freshly shifted from San Jose.

Overall, the 88-game schedule features 85 games on Fridays and Saturdays. The other three games, two of which are Calgary home games, will be played on Sunday afternoons.

"We're pleased to offer a schedule in which the vast majority of the games are on Friday or Saturday nights," NLL commissioner George Daniel said. "The league prides itself on a schedule that is as fan-friendly as possible."

In addition, the schedule includes no gimmickry as in past seasons -- with no neutral-site games or imbalanced scheduling, every team plays eight times on home turf.

The sixteen-week schedule concludes with three games on Saturday, 24 April. A schedule of weekends for the three-round playoffs will be released at a later date.
