Colorado cans McMahon after 0-2 start

Govett to go behind bench for Mammoth

After starting the season with two disappointing losses, the Colorado Mammoth yesterday dismissed head coach Bob McMahon.

Team president and general manager Steve Govett will assume the coaching duties on an interim basis, beginning with this Friday's game at Minnesota.

"I have a standard and a vision for this team," Govett said, "and sometimes it's hard to have others buy in to that vision and carry it out if they're not 100 percent in sync with what I'm looking for. I think our fans deserve better than what we've shown on the field so far."

So far, the show hasn't been pretty for Mammoth fans -- a season-opening 17-8 thrashing at Washington and come-from-ahead 14-13 home loss to Edmonton.

"We played like [crap] the last couple weeks," Mammoth assistant captain Nick Carlson told NLLinsider.com, "and that wasn’t necessarily Bob’s fault, and we feel guilty for it, but someone has to take the blame, and, fortunately or unfortunately, it was him."

In just over two seasons as Mammoth coach, McMahon compiled a 16-18 regular-season record and two first-round playoff losses. For his coaching career, including two seasons with Albany, McMahon has a 39-31 record.
