Ten-point outing earns Steenhuis honors for Week Nine

Led Bandits to win over Titans; King, Shattler, Clancy also selected

Mark Steenhuis of the Buffalo Bandits was named today as the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week for Week Nine.

Steenhuis led the Bandits this past weekend to an important win over the Orlando Titans, 12-10, on Saturday. Steenhuis scored the first three goals of the game, posting a natural hat trick in the first quarter. He finished with six goals and four assists for a total of ten points.

Calgary Roughnecks goaltender Matt King was named Defensive Player of the Week. King made 40 saves, allowing Philadelphia to score only seven goals on 47 shots on goal. The Roughnecks took the contest by a final of 15-7, marking their fourth consecutive win after a 1-3 start.

The Transition Player of the Week was Jeff Shattler of the Calgary Roughnecks. Shattler scored two goals and added an assist. He also helped the Roughnecks to their fourth consecutive win by scooping up twelve loose balls.

Buffalo Bandits forward Kyle Clancy was named Rookie of the Week. Clancy joined Steenhuis and the Buffalo attack by adding two goals and four assists of his own. Clancy assisted on both the tying and go-ahead goals to keep Bandits in front for a 12-10 win over the Titans.

All four players who won awards this week won for their first time this season.

The NLL weekly player awards are determined each week by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the league's eleven member clubs.
